“Simplicity of shape does not necessarily equate with simplicity of experience.”
- Robert Morris in “Notes on Sculpture” (1966)

Jeff Bailey Gallery is pleased to present an exhibition of ceramics by Cody Hoyt, drawings by Will Duty, and sculpture by Fabienne Lasserre. Exhibition dates are February 25 - March 26, 2017, with an opening reception on Saturday, February 25th from 6-8PM.

Fabienne Lasserre’s standing oval sculptures are larger than the body. Flat and wide, smooth or rough, transparent or opaque, they divide sensorial environment. Blocks of color segment space while single color gradients on clear vinyl provide visual passage. Tinted hanging circular shapes appear to float, acting as filters, reflectors or mirrors.

Will Duty’s graphite drawings obliquely reference the body through formal concerns of symmetry and balance. Curved and rectilinear forms hover in tandem, the white of the paper giving way to penumbral or dense black fields.

Cody Hoyt’s ceramic vessels assert with their identical geometric shapes, but vary in their elaborate individual patterning and color. Interlocking squares seem to replicate, tight curving lines continuously swirl and color flows as if painted. Two- and three-dimensional perception flip back and forth.

Cody Hoyt had a solo exhibition at the gallery in 2015. Other solo exhibitions include Patrick Parrish Gallery, New York (2016, 2014) and Andrew Rafacz Gallery, Chicago. He lives and works in New York.

Will Duty has had three solo exhibitions with the gallery. His work has been exhibited at the Weatherspoon Art Museum, Greensboro, North Carolina and the Tang Museum, Skidmore College, Saratoga Springs, New York. He lives and works in New York.

Fabienne Lasserre has had two solo exhibitions with the gallery. Her work has been exhibited at The Contemporary Arts Museum, Houston and The Museum of Contemporary Art, Montreal. She is currently participating in the Sharpe-Walentas Studio Program, Brooklyn. She lives and works in New York.
