Jeff Bailey Gallery is pleased to present Amy Pleasant: Blink, an exhibition of new paintings, drawings and sculpture.

Pleasant's new work focuses on the body’s shape and its contours.  Silhouetted forms evoke everyday motions and gestures.  Facial profiles suggest turning heads; bent legs show the body in repose.

The exhibition’s title, Blink, refers to both the immediacy of a moment that Pleasant seeks to convey and her working process. Forms are pared down and excesses are stripped away.  In her new painted ceramic sculptures, two curved planes are joined together as head-like shapes seen from different angles.

The figure is broken down into constituent parts, almost like fragments from statuary or remnants from an architectural dig.  Fleeting moments are captured while the passing of time is implied.

This is Amy Pleasant’s fifth solo exhibition with the gallery.  Other solo exhibitions include the Birmingham Museum of Art, AL; Atlanta Contemporary Art Center, GA; Clough-Hanson Gallery, Rhodes College, Memphis, TN; and Whitespace, Atlanta, GA. Group exhibitions include The Weatherspoon Art Museum, NC; The National Museum of Women in the Arts; Columbus Museum of Art, GA; Hunterdon Art Museum, Chattanooga, TN; Southeastern Center for Contemporary Art, NC; and the Art in Embassies Program.  Pleasant received her BFA from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago (1994) and MFA from the Tyler School of Art, PA (1999).  She lives and works in Birmingham, Alabama.
